If you’re a VPN fan who hates Cloudflare captchas, we’ve got a solution.
When you browse the internet with a VPN, you become completely anonymous with TorGuard’s AES-256 encryption and one of our shared VPN IP addresses. This means that websites or Internet Service Providers can’t trace you, track you, or keep a log of you–but there are some small downsides to anonymity like annoying Cloudflare captchas.
The reason being that when you visit websites protected by CloudFlare, you often trigger captchas due to your VPN’s shared IP address. If thousands of other users have accessed that same IP address at some point in time, some websites may suspect you are a bot. If the website is using CloudFlare, you might have to solve multiple captchas which can be a huge waste of time.
To solve this problem, Cloudflare released a new browser add-on that works with both Firefox and Chrome.
The extension is called “Cloudflare Edge Pass” and it’s an official extension made by Cloudflare (not an overly zealous Chrome extension that tracks your data like so many out there). The extension is designed to allow VPN or proxy users to bypass the number of captcha challenges that pop up users when browsing the web.
The extension information reads that it “has been developed to allow bypassing challenge pages using signed tokens that guarantee anonymity to the user.” The Cloudflare Edge Pass extension works in the background and if you’ve already completed a captcha during your session, it won’t keep throwing you more to solve.
“The extension generates cryptographically “blinded” tokens that are signed by Cloudflare’s edge when a CAPTCHA is solved. These tokens are “unblinded” and stored by the extension for future use; they are redeemed automatically when a future challenge page is seen. The “blinding” procedure means that signed and redeemed tokens are cryptographically unlinkable from Cloudflare’s perspective and, as such, are suitable for usage in conjunction with external anonymity measures (such as Tor/VPNs).”
If you hate captchas and want to browse more efficiently without sacrificing the anonymity of your VPN connection, then this is a good solution.
