Don’t save your password on device, instead use a password manager

By using a password tool in the cloud, or in-app, you can protect your passwords much easier. Many applications that store your password support two-factor authentication which is one of the best ways to ensure your accounts don’t get compromised even if your password does. Some applications even can require your thumbprint to get into the application so you can view your password database.

Password managers are also excellent tools to increase the complexity of your passwords, and thus your overall account security. With a dedicated password manager like LastPass, you can create passwords 100 characters along that sync with every one of your devices.

Enable Device Encryption + PIN Lock

There are many encryption options available on Android if you want to encrypt phone calls and texts. Apps like RedPhone and Signal are great, but you can even enable encryption on your device through configuring the default settings. Open up the settings on your Android and you’ll find an encryption option under Security.

Most Android smart phones come with an enabled simple lock feature, but the default action might be just a swipe instead of a pattern or password lock. Use a password lock with 6 digits for maximum security. Pattern locks are more fun, but they aren’t as effective as complex numbers/figures, and facial recognition isn’t very reliable either.

Use Anti-Theft App that supports remote wipe

Security isn’t often a priority for new phones–since they can play tons of games, take fantastic pictures, and provide content on the go–but when you have a phone that costs over $500, and suddenly you can’t find it, you will regret not installing a reliable anti-theft application. Applications like Prey let you lock your device remotely, remote wipe your phone, and these apps can even help you retrieve your phone if it gets stolen.

There are tons of applications that will help you retrieve your phone successfully and some even let you enable GPS on remotely. One of the most popular and multi-featured anti-theft applications is Cerberus, which lets you remote wipe an SD card, remote lock your phone, sim card change alerts, and the app even allows you to record audio remotely. Remove ALL apps that you don’t use

One of the worst and best things about the Android app store is that it doesn’t have as many restrictions on development and publishing. This means that tons of apps on the shop collect way too much information, or even use your information inappropriately.

Android applications are also embedded with tons of Google applications–and while Google apps are great and very secure–Google is also known for collecting data from these services for their promotional marketing and advertising purposes.

Use a VPN to increase network security

Using a good Android VPN on your phone is one of the best ways to encrypt your phone’s outgoing internet traffic data. Installing and using a VPN is a simple process that works primarily through our TorGuard VPN Android app available in Google Play.

Just buy VPN service on TorGuard.net, download the TorGuard Android app, enter your login, and you’ll be able to connect to one of our remote VPN servers that encrypt all of your traffic through 265-bit AES security.

If you plan on using public Wi-Fi, a VPN like TorGuard is mandatory if you don’t want your Facebook password or other sensitive data stolen. When using a VPN, no one can see your traffic, take your information, or monitor your online activity.
