This week, TorGuard has just introduced the largest VPN software and network update ever seen by our company. This new update introduces OpenConnect into our native TorGuard VPN client and across our entire VPN network. OpenConnect is a SSL VPN technology and open source port of Cisco’s AnyConnect SSL VPN project.
OpenConnect VPNs utilize TLS and DTLS to encrypt and authenticate the encapsulated VPN traffic. Besides being the fastest VPN protocol available, OpenConnect is also one of the most secure with numerous security features built in to protect the end user.
Total Multiplatform Support
TorGuard OpenConnect currently supports all available TorGuard VPN servers and all versions of operating systems including Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux.
Fastest VPN Speeds Yet
OpenConnect gives users the ability to max out bandwidth, increase speeds and avoid internet service provider bandwidth throttling, since TorGuard OpenConnect servers pass through a second SSH tunnel.
Impossible to Detect
When a user is logged into TorGuard OpenConnect VPN, activity appears only as normal SSL traffic without any sign of VPN usage. This means that TorGuard OpenConnect users cannot be blocked through firewalls such as the “Golden Shield Project” active in China. All traffic is encrypted with AES-256-GCM.
Killswitch and Seamless Connectivity
Alongside speed upgrades, OpenConnect also includes a built in server side killswitch which ensures the client will hold all network traffic until the gateway is connected through the VPN server. Even if a user loses connectivity, no information will be leaked. In addition, users can also expect seamless connectivity when switching between Wifi and 3G/4G networks.
Dedicated IP Compatibility
TorGuard offers Dedicated IP addon services and Custom port FW’s on all OpenConnect servers which can be essential for online media streaming, gaming, or personal banking.
How to Use OpenConnect with TorGuard
Go to the TorGuard downloads page and grab the latest copy of the TorGuard client, or click the update banner on your TorGuard VPN app. On the main screen, select the Tunnel Type dropdown and select OpenConnect. (If you don’t see OpenConnect option, go to settings, select “restore defaults”. Then go to Network tab and select “Enable OpenConnect”.
Third party AnyConnect clients are available for platforms: Solaris, Linux, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, GNOME, and KDE. It is also available on mobile clients like Android and iOS devices, and has been integrated into popular router firmware packages such as OpenWrt.
